Pre School children

Pre school children aged 3 and 4 occupy the first floor of Gable House. Here there are two brightly decorated open plan rooms, recently refurbished to a high standard. The children also have access to their own bathroom facilities on this floor.

Our rooms have a multitude of fun and stimulating activities, including a cosy reading corner, home corner and a range of quality toys for imaginative play which are freely available for the children to use.
We also have a computer suite, designed to be as child friendly as possible, which incorporates a variety of educational and fun software.

We follow the new Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which has six main areas of learning. They are:

  • Physical development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Personal and emotional development
  • Mathematical development
  • Creative development

The pre school is led by a qualified Teacher who has over 10 years of experience working in our nursery and many more years working as a primary teacher in mainstream schools. The Staff ratio is one adult to 8 children and all staff have early years qualifications.

Activities are based on weekly planning so that children can learn at their own pace through play and activities which are varied daily to suit individual learning needs. These plans are based on information which the staff gather from written observations and record keeping. The information is then updated in each child’s individual profile. At the end of each academic year, parents and carers are invited to view these profiles and to have a more in depth chat about their child’s progress.
At Gable House Nursery we value that parents and carers are a child’s primary teacher and that working closely in partnership can greatly influence how each child develops.

Academic and social development are encouraged through activities such as constructive play, messy play, group activities, computers, outdoor play, song and dance.

Within our curriculum we strongly emphasise personal and emotional development as being the key element to successful learning. Confidence building through role play, circle and discussion time allows each child to express themselves as individuals and teaches all children to respect and value their peers.

At Gable House the continuity of care and learning is very important to us and for this reason we invite reception class teachers from local schools to come and observe our children and liaise with our staff at the end of each academic year.

We are confident that the high quality of education, care and attention that your child will receive in our pre school class, will give them the best possible start in life and prepare them for their first year at school.
