Two rooms on the ground floor cater for children aged 1 and 2. The 1 year olds have a room which is carpeted and cosy to provide a similar environment to that which they may have been used to in our baby unit. Both rooms are very welcoming and have a good range of age appropriate toys and books.
The staff ratio is one adult to 3 children below the age of 2 and one adult to 4 children aged 2 to 3. Each child is assigned a key worker who is responsible for monitoring their progress and assessing individual needs. All staff have early years qualifications and regularly update their training to meet the specific needs of this age group.
We follow the new national Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Within this curriculum, we identify four aspects, which celebrate the skills and competence of babies and young children and highlights the interrelations between growth, learning, development and the environment in which they are cared for and educated.
The aspects are as follows :
- A strong child
- A skillful communicator
- A competent learner
- A healthy child
Weekly planned activities are aimed at allowing each child to progress by learning through play. Their progress is monitored through written observations, allowing the individual needs of each child to be catered for.
